Thanks Tom for the great tip on using your midi controller to the max. There are templates for multiple controllers here and goes beyond what the manufactures support. I wish more people would get involved in making their controllers better. One script is cool but multiple layer scripts makes the experience way better.
Thanks to people like Native Kontrol, it makes that a reality.

Working on a prototype controller, and driving myself nuts with code. Ableton clinics are going to take a break for June and July. August I will bring them back in full effect. Check me out on all the links, and my new summer music will be on soundcloud. See you soon. If anyone needs me use my email.

Recording Live Music, and Arranging In Real Time.
*Phrasing
*Looper
*Audio Clips
*MIDI Clips
*Loop Arrangement
*Global Record
*Preset Management
1. Phrasing. A basic building block in music. Where ideas begin, and keys and changes take shape. Thinking process which can be rhythmic, melodic, experimental, and a combination of the three.
2. Looper is in Live8, but is the basic idea behind clip recording (whether audio or MIDI). Using the metronome will keep parts together in time, where the Looper can pick a tempo from the original phrase of music. Using live to capture parts is similar to many DAW, the big difference is the ability to do this in real time and to add more parts without stopping. A major push in Live is to continue making music without stopping.
3. Audio clips are very simple on the surface, but can do extremely intricate tasks. From envelop followers, to follow actions, to quantizing outside of the global clock, to holding groove pool information. There are so many uses for clips besides simply playing information. They can also be used to make dummy clips, which store effect trigger information and automation.
4. MIDI clips are a great place to use a controller and to quantize music which is recorded in real time. It's quite different from audio in that sense, but the other features from audio clips are still prevalent. MIDI clips cannot be used for dummy clips.
5. Loop Arrangement is great for working on "sections" of a song. This is a place where you can develop solos, arrange drums, compose harmonies, and these loop points can be fixed (made permanent) by adding locators. There are tricks involved with the section above the arrangement mixer dealing with locators and the ability to scroll through the song by parts.
6. Global recording is the performance place where Live remembers your entire performance including automations, clip arrangements, and midi note adjustments. Live is very flexible in this task especially with live editing of MIDI notes.
7. Presets are the most important part of Ableton. Making your own presets and saving them for quick recall make sessions a breeze. Having important and inspirational effects and instruments can be the difference between getting work done, or just noodling around. In the noodle time MAKE YOUR PRESETS. MAKE THEM BIG. KEEP SAVED WORK CLEAN.
Thanks for listening.
